Sending as someone else in Outlook 2003 / 2007

Stating the obvious, but for a reason: "Send As" mode lets you, for example, mary@domain.com send as someone else as, i.e. info@domain.com without the mail receivers ever knowing about the mary@domain.com address. There "From" field only see's info@. No longer do we need to use dodgy SMTP only accounts or Thunderbird.

This differ's from "Send on Behalf" which lets the receiver know of the originating address (mary@...) and the other "behalf of" user (info@...).

A recent example was A** N****** in the E** wanting to be able to send and reply as info@e**i******.ie, after all she received it's mails. Same with J*** B**** who wanted to send as "con*****ad****".

Two main things need to be done:

Set up the permission to do it on the SBS2008 server, in Exchange specifically.
Set up the From field in their Outlook.

1. Set up permissions in Exchange: In this example we are user Jim Joe and we want to send as info@domain.com, because we're sick of spammers attacking our inbox and we don't want to give out our user address freely.
Open the Exchange Management Console and then go to Recipient Configuration > Mailbox and right click the Mailbox you want to send as i.e. "Info".
Choose the Manage Send As permission option and a wizard will appear.
We have to add ourselves to this window or whichever users we want to give permission to send as Info@. The "SELF" account is default, if you see it, you can leave it be.
Finish with the Manage button, and then Finish.

2. Set up a From field in their Outlook: This lets the user type the address of who they want to send as, or leave blank and it will send as themselves.
Outlook 2007: Open a new mail, go to the Options tab, choose Show From button.
Outlook 2003: If Word 2003 editor is on you need to switch it off (default, it is on):
Close your mails, in main Outlook go to Tools > Options > Mail Format tab > uncheck Use Word 2003 as editor... Click Apply.

Open a new mail, go to View menu, enable From option, go back and switch back on Word 2003 as editor...

When the user wants to send a mail as the permissable user, they just type their address in the From field. Leaving the From field blank will send mails as themselves.
